But it did force me to re-watch some old Go-Busters episodes that I hadn't seen in a while, and I realized that there are some very interesting parallels between the villains in the Go-Busters anime and the villains in the Go-Busters manga. The short version is that there are three basic types of villains: the mad scientist, the crazy power-luser, and the psychopathic super-villain. In the manga, the first two tend to be featured in all sorts of side stories. The mad scientists in the manga are almost never the Big Bad of the story. They're just a set-piece, used to introduce a new character, in the middle of a story that's about someone else entirely. You also see a lot of the first two types of villain in the anime. The maniacal scientist is usually an evil person who is just on the wrong side of the story. They're presented as a threat, but never really go anywhere beyond that. They're there to set up the arc, and usually by the time the main character gets involved, the villain has been defeated and the arc's been finished. In the manga, this is almost always the case. You almost never see the villain as the Big Bad, because they're just the background, and you're really only interested in the main character. Most of the time, that villain doesn't even seem to be as evil as the other villains, which is weird. There's not much actual evil being done, and the main character is only focused on
